The Departments of Internal Medicine and Medical Education at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM) are seeking Internal Medicine physicians (M.D.) as full-time clinician educators. The successful candidates will have two overlapping roles, as a primary care internist in the UCF Health outpatient academic practice and as a medical educator with a focus on the clinical aspects of the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum. Opportunities for a leadership role in the M.D. educational program may be available. The positions may be for a tenure-track or non-tenure track (multi-year and/or clinical) appointment at the assistant, associate or professor of medicine level.
The UCF-COM M.D. program is undergoing curriculum transformation to ensure the preparation of tomorrow's physicians and is looking for forward-thinking clinician educators with a passion for teaching who can contribute to clinical, foundational, and/or systems sciences instruction. The successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of curricula at the undergraduate medical education (UME) level. Experience in preclinical foundational course(s) and/or internal medicine clerkship education is preferred.
The clinical duties will be at a UCF-Health multi-disciplinary clinic in close proximity to the medical school, university teaching hospital, as well as the VA medical center and Nemours pediatric hospital. The clinic is well-equipped and is the site of medical student, resident, fellow and other interprofessional education. Opportunities for clinical, translational and educational scholarship and research in collaboration with other faculty members are readily available. The chosen applicants will also be expected to provide service to the educational programs at the college and university.

The College of Medicine campus is part of a growing biomedical cluster known as “Medical City” at Lake Nona which is dedicated to innovation in health and wellness and continues to develop just east of the Orlando International Airport. The College of Medicine is located in a new medical education building with modern anatomy, histology and simulation laboratories as well as a state of the art library. In addition to the medical school, the Lake Nona campus also includes a state-of-the-art research center at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, multiple clinical graduate medical education programs, UCF outpatient clinics, and the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center under construction. Nearby are the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Guidewell Innovation research incubator, the Nemours Children's Hospital, and the new UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center.
Position Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited school and be Board eligible or Board certified in internal medicine, have completed ACGME-accredited training, and have a minimum of three years of post-training clinical experience. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of medical teaching experience.
In order to be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor of medicine or professor of medicine upon hire, candidates must have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, medical teaching experience and service commensurate with rank.
Preference will be given to candidates who have taught in a clerkship program as well as those with a prior course or clerkship leadership role and/or previous experience in ambulatory medical education, performance of work-based assessment, and/or clinical skills instruction and evaluation. Experience in small-group case-based learning, one-on-one clinical teaching, and working in the clinical and simulation skills laboratory environment is desired.Ideal candidates would have expertise with innovative teaching and assessment methods.There is a strong preference for having previous publications in the medical education literature.
