Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) has an opportunity for a strong, collaborative, and creative leader to lead WAPA’s information technology teams and application of information technology to improve business processes through implementation of Enterprise Architecture and IT planning procedures and the protection of WAPA’s mission critical and essential IT and OT systems through strengthened cyber security management and technical controls.
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a member of WAPA’s senior executive team and serves as a principal advisor to WAPA's Administrator and to other WAPA senior executives on the application of information and operations technology to improve business processes and serve power delivery, power marketing and transmission system maintenance needs. As the leader of 230+ federal and contract technology staff located throughout the 15-state service territory, this key executive will partner effectively across WAPA and DOE to advance WAPA’s mission through the use of effective enterprise architecture, data strategy and cyber security.

The ideal candidate for this position has significant leadership experience and knowledge in designing, developing, producing, testing, and maintaining all types of technology solutions; experience in leading and developing effective partnerships with a wide array of people at every level including government agencies, vendors and industry for the purposes of continuous learning, process improvement, change management and effective collaboration; and identifying best practices and effectively managing a 24x7 system necessary to keep the lights on.
Applicants must have strong leadership skills and business acumen to manage and supervise a diverse staff responsible for all facets of information technology services. This will include networks, business systems, operational controls, cyber security measures, and critical infrastructure protection.
In addition, a candidate should have demonstrated ability integrating key agency goals and priorities into organizational programs while balancing change and continuity, improving customer service, increasing program performance, and ensuring accountability, and developing and maintaining strategic technology plans and integrating those plans into WAPA’s capital planning and budgetary planning processes. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient experience in IT, OT, SCADA systems and leading IT organizations in an electric utility environment.
