AMA seeks a Rotary-wing Aircraft Dynamics Engineer to support research efforts within the NASA Flight Dynamics Branch at NASA Langley Research Center aimed at safely integrating Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles into the National Airspace System (NAS). The incumbent will be part of a core research team that supports the goals and milestones of the NASA Air Traffic Management – eXploration (ATM-X) Project.
The position requires an undergraduate engineering degree related to atmospheric flight mechanics and 3-5 years experience in aerodynamics and flight dynamics modeling and simulation, with specific emphasis on rotary wing vehicles. A strong background in Matlab/Simulink simulation is required and a background in flight controls and control law development is highly desired. The task may sometimes include testing quad-copters or other UAM-type rotorcraft in The Langley 12-Foot Low-Speed Tunnel in order to collect the data needed for tuning analytic models of the vehicle dynamics and control systems.
