The WATER RESOURCES ASSOCIATION OF THE DELAWARE RIVER BASIN is currently seeking an experienced, contract employee to serve as the organization’s Executive Director through calendar year 2020, with the opportunity to extend the contract into future years. Reporting to the President and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for executing WRADRB’s mission.
The WRADRB is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan advocacy and public information organization that was established in 1959 by representatives from industry, public and private utilities and other organizations that had wide-ranging interests in water resources and who sought to ensure public participation in the management of the Delaware River and its tributaries. WRADRB’s mission includes promoting sound, science-based water resources planning and management while heightening the understanding and recognition of the economic, social and environmental importance of the Delaware River Basin’s water resources.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization while ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness in meeting its goals. The ED will be expected to develop and implement strategic plans in partnership with the Board of Directors and members and seek their involvement in water resources policy decisions and other selected goals.
The ED will also oversee Board and Committee meetings, marketing and other communications efforts, review and approve contracts for services, and other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. The ED needs to develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. They will be responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, and ensuring maximum resource utilization to maintain and grow the organization in a positive financial position. The ED position does not require direct supervision of personnel, however, it may require management of employees contracted to perform specific duties from time to time.
Serving as WRADRB’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and general public, the ED will need to establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the Basin and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance WRADRB’s mission. The ED will be responsible for the enhancement of WRADRB’s image by being active and visible in the Basin and deepening and refining all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of enhancing water resources management. Our organization has a close-knit culture in which we place a high priority on communication, recognition and collaboration. We are in search of an ED who is aligned with our culture and will continue to enhance it through positive leadership.
