The Civil Engineer - Special Projects position provides technical support of in-house one- and two-dimensional hydrologic and hydraulic modeling including: the Dam Safety Emergency Action Plan (EAP) program, the Area Drainage Master Studies and Master Plans (ADMS/ADMP) program, the implementation of new technologies, assistance with maintenance of the Drainage Design Manual for Maricopa County (DDM), and other projects.

Typically successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
Minimum education and/or experience: A Bachelor's degree in a work related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to civil, chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering; or in a physical or biological science directly related to the assigned duties and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering work experience on dam safety projects, hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling, and flood hazard delineation projects to include experience using FLO-2D Pro, HEC-RAS and ArcGIS. Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements: Registration as a Civil Engineer by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, OR by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six months of employment. Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
Preferred education and/or experience: A Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources or related fields. Five (5) years of professional civil engineering work. Computer programming experience with Python and/or VB.NET. Preferred training, certifications and/or other special requirements: Association of State Floodplain Managers Floodplain Manager Certification. Working conditions: Primarily office work in doors. Field work is required periodically and will require ability to walk in rough and steep terrain and endure summer heat and winter cold. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
