The Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Director of Engineering position. In preparation for a retirement, the District wishes to hire a person who can learn the job while the incumbent is here. This position will develop, direct, and oversee capital improvement projects including: plant expansions, equipment repair or replacement, sewer system construction, repair, or rehabilitation, and process redesign. This position directs the permitting process to ensure compliance with ordinances, codes, and policies. Responsibility for coordinating and overseeing the sewer maintenance department will be assumed by this position by the end of 2019.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or other related engineering field. This position reports to the Executive Director. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of engineering as applied to the construction, operation, and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and sewer systems. Candidates must be a registered professional engineer in Illinois or be able to obtain a license within 1 year of hire.
A minimum of 7 years work as an engineer with increasing responsibility is required. Experience in sewage treatment and/or sewers is strongly preferred. Prior oversight of contractors, consultants, and support staff is desirable. Development of projects for the public sector is advantageous. Familiarity with ArcGIS Desktop, survey data collection, and Innovyze hydraulic modeling software is preferred.
