THE DEPARTMENTThe Engineering Division of the Public Works Department operates to protect the City of Vallejo's interest in both new development and the operation of existing City infrastructure by providing engineering, technical, and contract management assistance to all City departments. It is the Engineering Division's responsibility to schedule, design, prepare specifications, acquire permits, secure rights-of-way, advertise, bid, and manage all capital improvement projects as directed and approved by the City Council and the City Manager. Other engineering responsibilities include plan review, obtaining and holding applicable permits and encroachment agreements, and observing the construction of new public infrastructure to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.THE POSITIONThis recruitment is being conducted to fill two full-time vacancies. The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and temporary vacancies for up to one year.This position will plan, organize, and supervise professional and technical engineering operations for the current development section. Incumbents will oversee the preparation of complex engineering designs, plans, specifications, and reports; manage assigned projects; prepare scope and development of consultant proposals and act as project liaison for consultants; provide engineering assistance to developers, contractors, consultants, other agencies, and the general public to resolve complaints and problems and ensure successful project completion; develop and support master planning work which includes insuring the development projects are compatible with Master Plans; review improvement plans, land development applications, grading plans, parcel and tract maps for compliance with city codes and requirements and ensure a high standard of quality is maintained for all plan checked development projects; review and prepare reports, studies, applications, and documents pertaining to project work such as environmental assessments, legal descriptions, and grants; plan, coordinate, supervise and perform professional engineering work in the review and plan checking of public and private development projects; participate actively in development review with the Planning Department; establish plan checking standards including check-off lists for review items; plan and provide plan checking staff training; periodically review and recommend revisions to City Standards Specifications and Details and assist in the long-range planning of City facilities and public works projects.
