This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up testing. The Signal and Communications Systems Technician performs complex and varied duties in the maintenance and repair of signaling and rail safety systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) hardware and network devices, track switching equipment, signal systems circuits, and other electrical equipment; and performs related work as assigned. Troubleshooting, analyzing and isolating malfunctions, conducting inspections, testing, modifying, maintaining and repairing signaling and communications systems equipment. The Signal and Communications Systems Technician shall contribute to team efforts and represents Agency core values in the performance of duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
An Associate's Degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology from a two (2) year Technical College or institute, plus two (2) years of related work experience. Equivalent combination of training, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above. Light Rail Transit experience is desired. Drug Testing: Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up testing. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check. Incumbent is required to obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain a current valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B) with Air Brakes endorsement. Position requires the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro's Vehicle Insurance Policy. Position requires the incumbent to successfully pass the safety and track worker protection certification and to maintain ongoing education and training requirements of the position.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work Environment: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. May work from lift trucks, ladders, and other elevating devices. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Incumbents may be subjected to risk of electrical shock, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noise levels.
