The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, Center for Regenerative Medicine at Virginia Tech is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology. The successful candidate will work on an interdisciplinary NIH-funded project focused stroke and vascular remodeling. Qualified candidates will be expected to work in a team environment investigating novel mechanism(s) of vascular remodeling in human and animal models. Our multidisciplinary approach requires an in-depth understanding of the biochemical, molecular and cellular neurobiology of CNS injury and/or vascular function. Candidates will work in coordination with the VT-Biocomplexity Institute, The Department of Chemistry and VT-Carilion Hospital.
Primary duties include stroke surgery, chimeric mouse generation, multi-photon imaging and extensive histopathological analysis including non-biased stereology. Additional skills include qPCR, Western Blot analysis, brain tissue processing and single cell isolation. Experimental design, data analysis and manuscript preparation will be conducted. The candidate will be expected to attend lab meetings, School of Neuroscience journal clubs and seminars, participate in undergraduate and graduate education, maintain laboratory spaces in a clean and good working order and maintain a high level of organization in data collection and storage.
