The University of South Carolina is expanding its efforts in Health Sciences education and research particularly in areas that significantly impact the residents of the state. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a prominent health concern in South Carolina. Research into the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease is a growing priority at the University of South Carolina. The Cardiovascular Translational Research Center (CTRC) has been established to promote integrated research across the university landscape in cardiovascular disease. A search for a funded and productive translational research investigator to serve as Director of the CTRC has been initiated at the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be a federally funded scientist (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent) with a strong background in cardiovascular research and demonstrable experience and/or potential for leading programmatic, multidisciplinary research teams. The successful candidate will partner with other researchers at the University of South Carolina and build upon the strong existing ties with cardiovascular physicians and surgeons to foster new research collaborations targeting cardiovascular disease processes affecting South Carolina citizens including:
Ischemic heart disease, particularly as it relates to obesity and diabetes
Heart failure including its prevention, diagnosis and treatment
Vascular disease including its prevention, diagnosis and treatment
Biotechnology, particularly the translation of biomaterials, drugs, devices and diagnostics for prevention, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease
