The Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking a Chief Engineer/Director of the Division of Transportation Solutions (DOTS). The department is responsible for developing, constructing and maintaining the State’s infrastructure in a manner that results in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi-modal transportation network that enhances mobility, commerce, and livability.
The Division of Transportation Solutions is responsible for the design of roadway and bridge projects; management of the state’s bridge inventory and paving programs; construction administration for capital projects; acquiring property interests for the capital improvement program; the design, construction and maintenance of the State’s traffic management systems and assets (signals, traffic cameras, overhead message signs, signs and striping); operation of the Transportation Management Center (a 24/7 facility that manages the state’s transportation system and incidents affecting the transportation network); and management of support functions for the delivery of the capital improvement program including environmental permitting, survey, utility coordination, materials inspection; and financial management of capital and operating budgets for the Division.The incumbent will oversee the management of the Division of Transportation Solutions. This position manages a capital budget of $600+ million and a staff of more than 450 employees statewide. The incumbent will report directly to the Cabinet Secretary and is a member of the Department’s policy-setting Executive Management and Strategic Leadership Teams.
