The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) seeks an experienced and innovative individual to serve as the Chief of the Special Projects Division, responsible for overseeing and managing division staff during all phases of assigned projects. Provides executive-level management and coordination on complex large-scale multimodal transportation projects with significant regional and/or national importance. Serves as the Project Manager for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project and is responsible for other large-scale, complex, and multi-jurisdictional transportation projects with high visibility and major regional mobility impacts. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), in conjunction with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), are constructing a 23.1-mile extension of the Metrorail system into the rapidly growing Tysons and Dulles Corridor in two phases. While Phase 1 of the project is being closed out, Phase 2 is under construction. Leads and coordinates all activities affecting Fairfax County associated with the project during all project phases, with special emphasis on areas such as design and engineering, construction, financial management, land development, and project closeout. Acts as the county's lead coordinator with MWAA, WMATA, DRPT, and the Federal Transit Administration, as well as other county departments. In addition, works closely with organizations of interest such as the Phase 1 and the Phase 2 Dulles Rail Tax District Advisory Boards and Commissions, the Dulles Corridor Advisory Committee, Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance, and the Dulles Area Transportation Association, among others. The Division Chief also serves as Fairfax County's lead on the Transform I-66 Corridor Improvements project to address existing and future transportation challenges along the I-66 corridor and improve multimodal mobility by providing new travel choices. Responsible for coordinating all project activities with the Virginia Department of Transportation, within FCDOT, and with multiple County departments, as well as representing Fairfax County's interests on the project.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering, urban/transportation planning, financial management, or a related field; plus five years of progressively responsible relevant transportation experience, including two years of experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity. A Master's degree in civil engineering, urban/transportation planning, or a related field may be substituted for one year of the required transportation experience.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Valid driver's license.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check and a credit history check to the satisfaction of the employer.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
