The Heart of the South Bay, City of Lawndale, is seeking a Director of Public Works/ City Engineer to develop, manage and oversee the professional, technical, clerical and skilled operations of its Department of Public Works, to include: administration, engineering, street maintenance, and grounds maintenance. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Director of Public Works/ City Engineer must be able to demonstrate strong leadership, integrity and a commitment to providing modeled municipal services to City residents, businesses, and visitors. The ideal candidate must be able to effectively oversee capital improvement projects and public works operations, achieve strategic objectives/goals, and work collaboratively with all levels within the organization.
Education, License and Experience: Six (6) consecutive years of increasingly responsible experience managing diverse public works operations, involving administration, engineering, capital projects and programs, maintenance and operations. Two (2) years managing and/or directing a division or department. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course work in civil engineering or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. A valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the state of California and Land Surveyor is highly desired.
