BTI is hiring a Science Communications Intern to participate in the 2019 Plant Genome Research Program (PGRP). This individual would spend 10 weeks at BTI with the Plant Genome Research Program undergraduate interns, and be paired with a BTI communications mentor. They will communicate about the PGRP program via a variety of media, including podcasts, press releases, social media and other web content, program newsletters, and photo/video content. In addition to gaining practical science communications experience, this individual will have the opportunity to meet with a different science communications professional for a one-hour consultation during each week of the program, either in person or via skype. These would include science writers, journalists, documentarians, science museum exhibit directors, and more.
The opportunity will be open to an undergraduate student studying communications or life sciences, or a combination of both, who shows an interest in communicating science to the public and currently attends one of the following schools in Central, NY: Binghamton University, Broome Community College, Cayuga County Community College, Cazenovia College, Cornell University, Corning Community College, Elmira College, Hobart William Smith, Ithaca College, Keuka College, Le Moyne College, Onondaga Community College, SUNY at Binghamton, SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry, SUNY Cortland, Syracuse University, Tompkins Cortland Community College, or Wells College.
