About the Position:
The Hydrology and Hydraulics Engineer will work closely with senior staff in ESA’s Northern California Region to expand our Sacramento Environmental Hydrology & Design practice in the areas of flood management, habitat restoration and water resources engineering. ESA’s Environmental Hydrology & Design practice has a long history of integrating rigorous engineering analysis with an understanding of natural processes to create creative, multi-benefit solutions to flood management challenges. In this context, our practice spans flood management planning, habitat restoration design, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, climate adaptation planning and design, integrated water resources engineering and more. The Hydrology and Hydraulics Engineer will support all aspects of the Environmental Hydrology & Design practice in Northern California, but will focus on hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for flood-related projects primarily in the Central Valley region.
From major river and wetland restoration design projects to specialized studies of climate change hydrology, ESA’s Environmental Hydrology & Design practice spans a diversity of water resources planning and design projects. Project opportunities for the successful candidate would span all facets of ESA’s Environmental Hydrology & Design practice, but would focus on interdisciplinary, multi-benefit flood management planning and engineering in the Central Valley region. Project opportunities include: existing on-call contracts with DWR’s Division of Flood Management, Division of Operations and Maintenance, and Division of Engineering; as well as opportunities with local and regional agencies and non-governmental organizations.
As a result of ESA’s strategic growth, our Northern California Environmental Hydrology & Design practice is seeking to add an experienced hydrology and hydraulics engineer with strong modeling skills to our team. This position will support our expanding Sacramento/Central Valley flood management practice, based out of ESA’s Sacramento office in the Northern California region.

Qualified candidates should have a BA/BS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline and a minimum of 4 years’ experience; a Master’s degree and/or professional registration (e.g. P.E.) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience; or Ph.D. and a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
Training and/or experience in fluvial geomorphology, estuarine systems, CEQA/ NEPA compliance, and environmental regulatory permitting are all desirable.
