This position provides leadership and management for University of Utah Health System’s Patient Safety program and serves as the organization’s Patient Safety Officer. It focuses on patient safety culture, prioritization of patient safety work, and developing highly reliable processes. Critical elements are strategic vision, planning, leadership in patient safety principles; and identification, analytics and process improvement to address factors that pose risk to patients or which contribute to patient harm. This incumbent will provide insight into patient safety performance and make recommendations for improving culture and clinical performance.
This position serves as a catalyst within the system to move the organization forward; supporting a strong patient safety culture and high reliability processes. The incumbent provides input, including data and review reports, to strategic decisions that affect the patient safety program, works collaboratively with executives, clinical and operational leadership and front line teams to develop objectives and goals for the system. This position is responsible to identify and address factors that may contribute to adverse patient outcomes or harm, ensure clinical services are delivered in compliance with federal and state safety standards, develop and implement patient safety related policies, procedures and guidelines, and negotiates terms of patient safety related service agreements.
Department Overview: Reports directly to the Senior Director of System Quality, Patient Safety and Value. Responsibilities are structured around the administration of the Patient Safety Department with responsibilities encompassing patient safety-related work across the health system.
