Occasional daily and overnight travel to West Palm Beach may be required. The Engineer Lead for the Big Cypress Basin office serves as a high level technical expert for the Big Cypress Basin and is responsible for delivering engineering services and decisions that contribute to the success of one or more of the district’s strategic programs. This position coordinates with district staff and local governments in the areas of local project planning support on various regional/local project such as comprehensive plan amendments as they relate to flood control, water supply and any future initiatives that the Big Cypress Basin may be involved with. Additionally, the position may provide support with capital project planning and review, right of way permit reviews. May assist in/or provide back-up duties for operating the primary system water control structures and may monitor canal stages and groundwater levels.
Incumbent supports district emergency management operations, typically, as a public assistance coordinator who prioritizes, consolidates and coordinates damage assessment teams. May also serve as the Basin’s Water Manager of the flood control system. May perform other relevant emergency management operations as needed. Requirements: Incumbent must possess strong and effective oral and written communication skills as well as superior customer service skills. The incumbent must be a self-starter and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and have the ability to reprioritize workloads to effectively respond to special requests, unplanned situations and changes in workflows/process. Engineering services and decisions are made based on a diversified knowledge of theories, precepts, concepts, and practices related to a specific discipline, however a strong background in hydraulics is preferred. In addition, incumbent has solid working knowledge of standards and practices for related engineering disciplines.
Practical experience with engineering construction is preferred. Employment Guidelines: May be filled as Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer.
Licenses: State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Florida PE license within six months of employment by reciprocation of Professional Engineer license from another state. Must keep licensure status current.
Valid State of Florida driver's license required.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment: Due to the district's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies depending on assigned emergency response role.
