The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position in the Civil Engineering Department of the Water Operations Division to perform professional engineering work in the planning, design, permitting, and construction of District facilities and to perform a variety of technical engineering studies.
Assistant Engineer This is the entry level class in the Engineer series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Assistant Engineer class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Associate level. Incumbents work under general supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Associate Engineer This is the journey level class in the Engineer series and is distinguished from the Assistant level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Assistant level.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Civil Engineer in that the latter is responsible for serving as project manager over the most complex projects and/or functions and may provide direct and or indirect supervision to professional and technical personnel.
Assistant Engineer: Receives general supervision from a higher level supervisor or manager.
Associate Engineer: Receives direction from a higher level supervisor or manager.The position will be filled at the appropriate level (Associate, Assistant) based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Any qualified individual may apply. This is an exempt position and is assigned to the Professional and Supervisory Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Civil Engineer vacancies that may occur within the District through November 26, 2019.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: One year of professional civil engineering experience related to the design and construction of District facilities is desirable.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or a related field.
License and Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver's license.
In addition to the qualifications for the Assistant Engineer:
Experience: Three years of responsible experience similar to Assistant Civil Engineer with the District.
License and Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Possession of a valid Engineer-In-Training Certificate. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer highly desirable.
