The United States Naval Academy (USNA) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in Aerospace Engineering to begin 29 July 2019. All students in the ABET-accredited Aerospace Engineering major choose a specialty track in Aeronautics or Astronautics. One of the open positions is for teaching courses primarily in the Aeronautics Track; the other is for teaching courses primarily in the Astronautics Track. A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Aerospace Engineering or a strongly related field is required. Anticipated completion of Ph.D. no later than July 2019 is acceptable. U.S. citizenship is required.
Candidates for the Aeronautics position are sought at all tenure-track ranks. Strong candidates will have expertise in flight mechanics, preferably augmented by experience in air vehicle design and fabrication. Supplemental experience in other specialized aspects of aeronautics will also merit consideration, including rotary wing and vertical lift flight, adaptive structures, and additive manufacturing.
Candidates for the Astronautics position are sought at the rank of Assistant Professor, but higher ranks may be considered for candidates with commensurate experience. Strong candidates will have expertise in spacecraft systems, with emphasis on RF communications and data handling. Additional expertise in spacecraft propulsion will also merit consideration.
