ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Street Transportation Department is an industry leader in providing for the safe and convenient movement of people and vehicles by effectively operating and maintaining the city’s existing streets and managing the planning, design, and construction of new streets and associated infrastructure. Department resources include a staff of over 600 dedicated full-time employees, an annual operating budget of $70 million, and a five-year Capital Improvement Program of $500 million.
The Deputy Street Transportation Director reports directly to the Street Transportation Director or the Assistant Street Transportation Director and assists in planning, directing, and coordinating activities in a Department comprised of the following divisions: Management Services; Traffic Services; Transportation, Planning and Programming; Design and Construction Management; and Street Maintenance. Supervision is exercised over professional, supervisory, technical, and field staff. Frequent consultation and coordination with Street Transportation management staff, City Manager’s Office, City Council staff, citizens, and other jurisdictions regarding policy proposals and solving complex problems is common. Deputy Directors may be rotated between divisions and must possess excellent communication skills, the ability to build relationships of trust with stakeholders, and be committed to continuous improvement, collaborative teamwork, and excellent customer service.
