The City of Abbotsford is currently looking for a talented person to fill one of the key positions in our Transportation team as a Transportation Technologist II, reporting to the Senior Transportation Manager.
This is an exciting full-time role within our Engineering and Regional Utilities Department and we are looking for a self-motivated professional with proven skills, energy and attention to detail. This skilled position requires a high degree of technical knowledge relating to current standards in design, construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
Your strong interpersonal skills will allow you to effectively interact with the public in order to answer traffic-related questions, respond to complaints and requests, or to discuss traffic control ordinances, plans, policies, and procedures. This position undertakes, inputs, tabulates and reviews average daily traffic counts, warrant studies and surveys, and arranges detour routes in cooperation with other Departments, utilities and contractors.
You will provide support for City initiatives while using your critical thinking skills on issues facing transportation infrastructure. You will prepare drawings of proposed traffic control devices in accordance with Transportation Association of Canada guidelines. This position will have you providing support to the development of the City’s Active Transportation Corridors, including solutions for bicyclists and pedestrian facilities. You will assist in the continued development of “Safe Routes to School” in collaboration with the Abbotsford School District, ICBC, and the Abbotsford Police Department. Knowledge and experience using Traffic Modelling software such as Synchro/SimTraffic or Vissim, would be an asset.
