Summary of Position:
Undertake engaged outreach, research, and teaching in greenhouse crop management and technologies. This is a non-tenure track position as follows: 60% extension (University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension – UNHCE), 30% research (New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station – NHAES), and 10% teaching appointment (College of Life Sciences and Agriculture – COLSA). This position will be assigned to UNHCE’s Landscape and Greenhouse Horticulture Area of Expertise team within the Food and Agriculture Program.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, collaborative, and competitively funded applied research program focused at one or more of the NHAES research locations. He or she will undertake research and extension in greenhouse crop management and technologies to help the diverse greenhouse and garden center businesses characteristic of the state and region become more economically and environmentally sustainable. Program emphases may encompass greenhouse crop production, floriculture and edible crops, plant nutrition in greenhouse growing substrate, environmental controls, energy use efficiency, greenhouse technologies, and/or other relevant areas affecting profitability. Collaborative work with commercial growers in the state and region is expected.
We anticipate strong synergies with new and existing faculty and specialists working in diverse areas of agricultural systems including horticulture, crop development, and protected agriculture. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scientists.
The position includes 40% NHAES/COLSA funding, which meets the Extension state specialist requirement of 25% funding external to UNHCE. Working under the auspices of UNHCE and NHAES, he or she will be expected to compete successfully in national and regional funding initiatives, and to achieve prominence in their field of scholarship.
