The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in CubeSat or SmallSat propulsion. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and interest in chemical, electrical or new, unconventional, hybrid propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise that blends theory, experiment and practice in spacecraft propulsion. In addition, having experience and interest in propulsion support technologies including power systems, fuel storage, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) will be an advantage. Appointments may be at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, although Assistant Professor is envisioned. The position can begin as early as January 2019.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, establish an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, including those historically underrepresented in higher education, and undertake service activities within the University and in the professional community at national and international levels. Opportunities exist for synergy with research activities in the Department and the University, including an initiative in Space Situational Awareness (SSA), CubeSats and Earth Sciences.
