Plans, coordinates, and performs expert professional engineering work under the supervision and direction of the Traffic Manager to support the traffic engineering functions of the Engineering Services Division of the Public Works Department. Includes direct supervision of other engineers also planning, coordinating, and performing complex professional engineering work in the primary areas of transportation planning, improvement projects, and development review; construction management, budgeting, and materials procurement, and maintenance and development of equipment specifications and standards; and ITS/traffic signal timing and operations. Provides technical expertise directly or through subordinate staff in these areas and others identified below.Performs expert-level engineering work requiring a professional certification. Acts as the subject matter expert in traffic engineering related areas as outlined above and below; serves as enterprise-wide engineering project manager; and supervises professional, technical and support staff. Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy.
