Overview / ResponsibilitiesWood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Senior Process Design Engineer for work with planning documents, engineering design, and construction support in our Portland, Maine office. This individual will interface with both internal and external clients; be dynamic, creative, quality driven, have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; and be a proactive problem solver. The work will involve process design for water, wastewater, industrial wastewater, and remediation systems. The Wood Portland, Maine Office is a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture team of ~150 staff that offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.Key ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate will have a solid background in treatment process engineering. This position offers the opportunity to be a design leader on multi-discipline designs, to interact with clients and senior staff in Portland and other Wood offices, mentor junior staff, contribute to the growth of the environmental engineering design group, and collaborate with engineering staff in multiple disciplines while executing the following roles/responsibilities:Evaluates waste streams and discharge requirements and identifies unit operations for treatmentEvaluates treatment economics and performs system optimizationCalculates and manages simple, small fee, non-complex project budgetsPrepares proposals and assists in preparation of large-scale proposalsPrepares design plans and specificationsContacts vendors to research product applicability specific to project requirementsPlans and implements bench- and pilot-scale treatability studiesPrepares and generates routine reports and correspondence; writes reportsReviews field reports prepared by staff specialists; provides guidance to field personnelSupports construction through submittal reviews, oversight, and design inputEvaluates contractor’s performance against schedule, budget and specificationsMaintains successful client relations while working on many projects at one timeWorks as part of an environmental design team that addresses remediation and wastewater projectsFollows company safety standards, site safety standards and audits subcontractor safety activities
Skills / QualificationsBasic/Required QualificationsBS in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering10+ years of design or construction experience with a focus on environmental applications in site remediation, water/wastewater treatment, or similarExperience with physical-chemical or biological treatment methodsExpert in process design (e.g., equipment sizing, P&IDs, materials of construction)Professional Engineer (PE) licenseExcellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; Strong organizational abilitiesDemonstrated experience working successfully in a team environmentDemonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detailAdaptability and willingness to adjust to client needsAbility and willingness to travel to project sites - Anticipated travel expected to be less than 20% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible at timesFlexibility to work outside of normal business hours if requiredMust pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policyPreferred QualificationsMS in Civil/Environmental/Chemical EngineeringConstruction inspection/oversight experienceExperience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substancesExperience with municipal water/wastewater treatmentExperience with remediation systems; Understanding of means and methods associated with environmental remediation technologies and treatment systems such as soil vapor extraction systems, multiphase extraction, groundwater extraction/injection, LNAPL recovery, air sparging, carbon adsorption, air stripping, and oxidationExperience planning and performing bench and pilot-scale treatability studiesExperience completing process hazard analyses40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER TrainingSelf-starter and lifelong learnerPhysical DemandsField activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditionsMay lift equipment and carry laboratory samples which require the ability to lift up to 40 poundsCompany OverviewWood is a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.
