Overview / ResponsibilitiesWood has an opportunity for an Environmental Geologist or Hydrogeologist to work on a full time basis on our Phoenix, AZ team. Some overtime hours and occasional weekend and nighttime work may be required depending on the job. Must be highly motivated and a positive team player.Key ResponsibilitiesInitially, this position will be approximately 90% field work and 10% office work on a variety of projects including industrial, state and federal sites, although could transition to more office work for the right candidate depending on their demonstrated skill setsField activities include logging soil borings, oversight of groundwater monitoring well installations and collecting soil, groundwater, soil vapor, air, surface water and sediment samples as well as documenting field activitiesOffice activities include analysis and interpretation of analytical results and the preparation of summary reports, under the supervision of a Senior or Principal Geologist or HydrogeologistWill travel to project sites in Arizona and surrounding states. Approximately 25% overnight travelWill be routinely lifting equipment and carrying coolers of laboratory samples. It is anticipated that these materials can weigh up to 40 pounds
Skills / QualificationsRequiredBS in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related technical field2 to 5 years + relevant experienceMust be a self starter with excellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS OfficeFlexible to work outside normal business hours as required. May include weekend and nighttime workWillingness to travel to project sites Arizona and surrounding states. Approximately 25% overnight travelMust pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policyPreferredOSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour certificationFirst Aid & CPR certificationsExperience with logging soils from drill cutting in Arizona using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)Experience with a variety of borehole drilling methods, including direct push, rotary, sonic, air rotary casing hammer (ARCH), auger, flooded reverse circulation, mud rotary, air rotary, and dual tube rotary (casing advancement)Experience setting up, executing, and analyzing aquifer test data from step-rate and constant-rate aquifer testsExperience with water well and / or injection well drilling, testing and installation projectsExperienced with a variety of groundwater sampling methods, including but not limited to low flow (micro-purge), passive diffusion bags (PDBs), standard 3-well volume purge, bailers and HydraSleevesPhysical DemandsField activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditionsWill lift equipment and carry laboratory samples which requires the ability to lift 40 poundsCompany OverviewWood is a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.
