The Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer, part of the City of Brea’s exciting and innovative management team, plans, supervises, and reviews the functions, programs, and projects of the Engineering and Building Facilities Divisions and performs all City Engineer responsibilities required by City, State, and Federal law. As an integral member of the Public Works team, the Deputy Public Works Director / City Engineer also provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Public Works Director. The Public Works Department is focused on enhancing the quality of life in the community. The Department is staffed with 58 full-time personnel, and has a budget of $30 million for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The Public Works functions are handled through the Engineering, Streets and Sanitation, Water Operations, Equipment/Vehicle Maintenance, Parks, and Facilities divisions. These divisions provide service to residents, businesses, and developers in the community as well as coordinate the Capital Improvement Program, which has a $105 million budget for fiscal year 2018-19. The Engineering Division, led by the Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer, provides municipal engineering services, including capital improvements, project management, project review and plan checking for private development, inspection for public works construction projects, and traffic analysis. The Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer will also be required to manage the Building Maintenance Division and/or other operational divisions. If not filled at the Deputy Director level, the City Engineer will be responsible for the Engineering Division only.
