The professor and head of the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) is a full-time administrative position in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This position is responsible for the administration of the research, teaching, outreach, and international activities provided by ABE. Specifically the head’s responsibilities are:
•Provide leadership and vision to the department, advancing the goals of the land-grant mission in teaching, research, outreach, Extension , and international activities •Develop, communicate, and enforce departmental policy guidelines in consultation with the faculty •Plan, supervise, and recruit for all academic programs in the department •Supervise, evaluate faculty and staff in the department •Develop and implement a strong mentoring program for faculty and staff within the department •Administer budgetary and financial matters within the department •Provide leadership with college support for development and fundraising •Represent the department within the College of ACES, the College of Engineering and across the campus •Facilitate collaboration with the stakeholders of the ABE department including the current and future alumni, leaders in industry, government, other universities, public groups, and professional societies
All candidates must hold a Ph.D. in engineering with demonstrated accomplishments in fields closely associated with agriculture, food, water, energy, cyber-physical systems or the environment. Candidates must be qualified for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor. The position requires demonstrated leadership, administration, and management skills, as well as an ability to work with people, and to listen and communicate ideas effectively. Candidates must also demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of a land-grant university and to international activities. Experience with public and private funding sources is necessary.
