The Biology Department at Augsburg College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Biology. We seek an individual with broad training in plant biology, plant ecology, plant-microbe interactions, agroecology, plant breeding, plant genetics, horticulture, plant-insect interactions, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will teach an upper division course in plant biology, an elective in the candidate’s area of specialization, and introductory biology courses in some years. The ideal candidate will establish an active and sustained research program amenable to participation by undergraduate students. The department will move into a new state-of-the-art Science building with plant research facilities in early 2018.
The Biology Department is among the largest departments on campus based on student enrollment and provides a vibrant work environment in which students and faculty frequently engage. We seek a dedicated teacher and colleague who is committed to academic rigor and providing authentic research experiences for undergraduates in our program. The new building includes a custom-designed greenhouse, two walk-in growth houses and four stand-alone growth chambers.
The successful candidate will integrate the new facilities into their research and teaching, and will oversee the plant growth facilities. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree at the time of appointment and prior teaching experience. Postdoctoral experience and experience mentoring undergraduates in research is looked upon favorably. The successful candidate will be engaged in their subfield of biology through participation with and presentation at professional meetings at the regional and/or national level. Service to the department through committee work, mentoring and advising as well as participation on College committees or other initiatives is expected.
