The City of Torrance is seeking an Assistant Engineer to fill a vacancy in the Public Works Department's Engineering Division. The Assistant Engineer will perform engineering functions related to the planning, development and implementation of public works and traffic projects.This position will perform a range of professional office and field engineering work in the design and construction of public works facilities such as streets, traffic signals/devices, sewer facilities, storm drains, and water systems.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and one year of professional engineering office experience (Paid internship will qualify).
Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate and four years of responsible engineering experience. License and/or CertificatesMust possess and maintain an appropriate, valid California State driver license.A valid certificate of registration issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers is desirable.Ideal CandidateIn addition to the above requirements, the most successful candidate will possess the following:
