The Dutchess County Water and Wastewater is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Director of Operations for a county-wide authority. This is a managerial and technical position responsible for the proper and continued functioning of all Authority water and wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution and storage facilities, and sewer collection system facilities. General direction is received from the Authority Board of Directors and the Executive Director, with wide leeway for the exercise of independent judgment. General and direct supervision is exercised over subordinate professional, technical and clerical staff. The position is responsible for maintaining compliance with all statutes and regulations governing water and wastewater systems operations; administers day to day operations of personnel matters which included supervision, training, hiring and terminations; develops, schedules, and manages preventative maintenance programs to maintain all equipment in a workable and safe condition; directs and enforces a comprehensive safety program; and prepares annual operating budget requests and monitors expenditures.
Special requirements include possession of a New York State Grade 2 or higher wastewater treatment plant operator license, and a New York State Grade IIA or higher water treatment plant operator license at time of appointment; plus possession of or eligibility to obtain a Grade D water distribution system license within two years of appointment.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Water and Wastewater Technology or related field and five (5) years experience encompassing water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment and collection work, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; OR
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and seven (7) years experience encompassing water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment and collection work, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
Permanent appointment to the position is subject to civil service examination.
