The Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, in partnership with Korn Ferry, announces a national search for the Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA), a component of the University of Texas System, is the largest health sciences university in South Texas with a 50,000 square mile catchment area. The institution trains over 3,000 students per year across 65 degree programs in the biomedical and health science fields. With nearly 60 years of progressive growth and national recognition, and in anticipation of the opening in 2021 of a new $390M, 250 bed, state-of-the-art Woman's and Children's Tower at University Hospital, the institution has committed a significant investment in the Department which will support recruitment of both clinicians and researchers, directly addressing the critical issue of scale, and optimization of clinical resources.
Named by the U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services as a National Center of Excellence in Woman's Health, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to the mission of serving the needs of the citizens of South Texas, developing the next generation of leaders of academic obstetrics and gynecology, and conducting research leading to advances in the health care of women. The Department is composed of 37 faculty members, each within one of the six Divisions (General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Reproductive Research, and Nursing).
The Chair will be a compelling values-driven leader with an established academic track record of eminence and have the skills and experience to lead a clinical and educational enterprise whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions will energize the faculty, staff, and learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. The Chair will also be a prudent steward of the Department and UTHSA, guiding through what will almost certainly be uncharted territories of change in the healthcare and social environment. Qualified candidates must be: able to easily obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license; board certified in designated specialty and maintain excellence in practice and academic area of expertise; qualified for faculty appointment with eligibility for full professor with tenure. The ideal candidate will have national recognition in the field as an educator, clinician, research scientist, and physician leader.
Please forward, as soon as possible, applications or nominations of appropriate candidates to:
Bernard Godley, MD, PhD, MBA and Tonika Lam, PhD
