SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Deputy Chief Engineer Track is responsible for all Engineering functions of the Track Department system-wide to include design, standards, planning, estimating, scheduling, construction and maintenance of track. Additionally, the DCE Track has responsibility to ensure that all procedures relative to track construction and maintenance are safe and secure. Overall responsibility for the development, implementation, continuous improvement, and maintenance of Standards, Engineering Practices and guidelines to be used by all Track Department personnel for new construction.
Overall responsibility for the maintenance and operation of all Track Department equipment, vehicles, rail system and interlocking conditions on the entire Amtrak system. Directs the maintenance, evaluation and updating of all technical manuals, practices and procedures based on changes in federal regulations, industry recommendations and past experiences to meet or exceed all legal requirements and to ensure high performance.
Reports conditions requiring major improvements to the Chief Engineer and Capital Planning to integrate this work in the program approval process.
Additionally, the DCE Track is a member of the Engineering Leadership team and has responsibility for setting and guiding the culture of engineering to be best in class in technical, production and human relations matters. This includes leading the development of the track and engineering department employees in order to ensure sustainable succession of resources. DCE Track is responsible to promote continuous improvement in all Track related matters
