Contra Costa County is recruiting to establish an employment list in the classification of Associate Civil Engineer to fill several vacancies in the Public Works Department. This position is the first supervisory level in the engineering series performing complex field and office engineering work and plans, supervising and coordinating the work of Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
Associate Civil Engineers may be assigned to one of several engineering divisions which administer the road, flood control, maintenance and land development programs of the department. Typical duties may include planning, supervising and reviewing the design and preparation of drawings, specifications and estimates for construction and maintenance projects; coordinating preparation of and reviewing environmental documents and right-of-way drawings and descriptions; coordinating the development, implementation and administration of benefit assessment districts and drainage areas; and supervising the review of applications and development of the Public Works Conditions of Approval.
The Public Works Department provides for the construction, maintenance and improvement of infrastructure within the unincorporated area of the County and the Flood Control District as well as county buildings and grounds. The department is organized to conform to the process of developing and building projects. Public Works maintains 660 miles of roads and 150 miles of streams; channels and other drainage facilities as well as maintains 93 county buildings.

Tentative Oral Exam: April 12, 2018
License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Registration Required: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time or its equivalent professional engineering experience.

2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
3. Oral Interview: Conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas (Weighted 100%). Candidates must receive a score of at least 70, which may be an adjusted score, in order to be ranked on the employment list.
