Michigan State University is seeking applications for the positions of Process Technician and a Composites Processing Engineer. Process Technician Basic Function:The Process Technician facilitates the composite manufacturing operations of the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) Scale-up Research Facility (SURF) through set-up and operation of processing equipment to fabricate prototype components. Includes pre-processing, auxiliary/secondary equipment, injection and compression molding, and any post processing required. Additional duties associated with general day-to-day operation and maintenance of the facilities, as required. Required/Specific Experience: Associate's degree in Electronics or Mechanics or equivalent combination of related technical training and experience.
Composites Processing Engineer Basic Function:The Composites Processing Engineer develops, plans, and coordinates collaborative research & development programs and service-for-fee projects with industrial partners of the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI). Serves as technical lead and executes project objectives in the IACMI Vehicles Technology Area Scale-up Facility (VTA-SUF). Projects focus on the manufacture of Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) composites for vehicle structures (principally, automotive) and may include preforming and/or tape lay-up; development of intermediates (e.g., prepreg, thermoplastic tapes, fiber-resin compounds); infusion, injection, and/or compression molding; and joining.
