In general, the Resident Engineer / Project Engineer (RE / PE) will be responsible for overall field management of the contract, administration, and coordination on mid to large size transportation construction projects of a diverse and complex nature. The RE / PE monitors activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements; provides technical leadership for complex or unique assignments; reviews drawings, specifications, and constructability of items of work and may recommend changes to design; represents projects at meetings and conferences; and maintains constant coordination and communication with client, contractor, and consultant staff.Key Responsibilities•Read and Interpret complex contract documents•Monitor the adequacy of the contractor's progress, schedule, personnel, equipment, and materials•Verify inspection of the contractor’s work on the project by inspection staff•Review and draft project correspondence•Conduct project meetings and prepare detailed minutes•Prepare and maintain a document management system•Provide guidance and training to inspection staff and mentor and train staff•Review all materials laboratory test reports and certifications and verify that all materials meet and conform to the contract requirements•Oversee the submittal of materials and samples for testing•Identify and monitor deficiencies and discrepancies•Review contractor submittals including equipment, Work Plans, and QA / QC Plans•Review, monitor, and request updates of the contractor’s progress schedule•Oversee the preparation of Contract Modifications and prepare Change Orders / Work Orders•Identify and monitor contractor claims•Oversee and report on the contractor’s budget and the consultant’s budget•Collect data to brief client on project issues and provide possible resolutions•Prepare reports of activities and progress for the client as necessary•Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly construction estimates•Oversee the maintenance of as-built drawings and specifications•Conduct final inspections and prepare final inspection reports•Attend Public Meetings as necessary•Able to work a shift schedule and / or flexible schedules as required to support the workload, as well as in inclement weather, heights, confined spaces
Skills / Qualifications Required•B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree•Registration as a Professional Engineer in Michigan•Minimum of 10 years of construction engineering and / or construction management experience on transportation projects•Maintains and advocates a safe working environment•Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities•Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as required•Must pass drug test, entrance physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policyPreferred•Computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project and Primavera P6•Experience working with the Michigan DOT (MDOT) on MDOT Construction Projects•Experience with the MDOT Specifications and MDOT policies and procedures•Business Development, Marketing, and Client Relations experiencePhysical Demands•Working outside in various, inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain•Possible exposure to unpleasant and / or hazardous working conditionsCompany Overview Wood is a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets.
