The candidate must have experience in developing either a clinical or laboratory research program that is relevant to critical care medicine. The incumbent must have an M.D. or equivalent degree and also be board certified in critical care medicine so that he/she can perform as attending physician in an intensive care unit, care for a wide variety of complex patients on a regular basis, and provide leadership in caring for patients with highly contagious pathogens who are referred for studies. The candidate must be prepared to develop and operationalize a research program that will lead him/her to be a successful candidate for tenure.
The incumbent will work with nationally recognized experts at NIH in caring for patients and in developing research projects. The NIH is the nation's foremost federally funded biomedical research institution. The NIH Clinical Center is the 200-bed hospital in which NIH intramural research protocols are conducted. The position will be supported with independent resources commensurate with experience and programmatic needs. The Critical Care Medicine Department is located on the main intramural campus of the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.
