NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, responsible for performing professional engineering duties, evaluation and design of traffic controls (signals, roundabouts, signing and striping) and road safety projects, preparing construction documents, managing contracts, conducting traffic studies, determining signal system timing plans, and providing traffic engineering expertise through representation on project management teams for complex highway studies and capital improvement projects. This position provides work direction to traffic staff, and manages consultant contracts, as needed, to implement traffic projects and system operations. The individual in this position manages the development review process, by reviewing proposed development plats, preparing response comments, and coordinating the permit review of these developments.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or closely related field and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions with one (1) of those years in a supervisory role.
Required Specialist Qualifications
Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license is required within six (6) months of employment.
Certification as a Professional Transportation Operations Engineer (PTOE) from the Transportation Professional Certification Board, thereby acknowledging proof of accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). PTOE certification is required within 24 months of employment.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
