Overview / Responsibilities Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is a multi-disciplinary firm of consulting environmental scientists and engineers with offices throughout the United States. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Warner Robins, GA office.This person will be a member of a team providing engineering and scientific consulting services to private industry and government clients. This position will support a wide variety of projects. This position is to provide maintenance, technical and engineering services for clients that own, manage and operate buildings and facilities. The services are to support clients with maintenance, facility condition assessments, energy use studies, energy cost reduction, alternative systems and equipment, retro/re-commissioning, and overall energy management planning.Key Responsibilities •Performs field exploration, inspections, analysis; provide technical support with some supervision•Acts as a data gatherer; prepares charts; runs heating and cooling load programs•Performs field energy testing; uses equipment and instrumentation•Interprets data and test results•Prepares field reports, internal correspondence, sections of formal reports•With experience, may supervise subcontractors and/or company employees•Follows company safety standards, site safety standards, and provides all required permitting•Contacts vendors; researches literature and regulatory requirements•Conducts engineering, scientific and routine calculations•Prepares and evaluates data sets•Assists in preparing reports and proposal writing •Executes facility mechanical engineering HVAC and plumbing designs in accordance with applicable codes and standards•Preparation of construction drawings and specifications for Military & Commercial plumbing, HVAC Systems and controls•Troubleshoot HVAC systems and DDC controls to minimize cost, ensure optimum system performance, and ensure simplified system operations and maintenance•Analyze existing building systems and collect data on building operation, HVAC, electrical, lighting and controls to determine energy usage and efficiency•Design of facility HVAC and plumbing systems considered a plus•Participate in the development and implementation of LEED projects, have the ability to work as a third party to traditional in-house A/E design teams to assist in materials and systems selection•Conduct and supervise energy audits and develop plans for efficiency upgrades•Able to review equipment shop drawings, operating manuals and spare parts lists•Range from scoping and proposal stage of services•Performs facility system assessment field work•Generates workload plans, design analyses, drawing plans, specifications, cost estimates and estimated construction schedule•Significant CADD/GIS work with REVIT and AutoCAD MEP•Develop, design and coordinate building commissioning activities to ensure building systems meet the design intent and expectations of the owner•Resolve complex technical issues and identify control system innovations in order to ensure comfort, manage energy costs and consumption and avoid air quality issues•Prepare and monitor utility budgets•Will develop/analyze energy conservation measures for proposals, lead others in the energy service support groups in providing energy services, and be capable of leading energy consulting meetings for design and construction teams•Verify energy performance of the various proposed and designed systems and provide a knowledge of building and energy codes as well as energy and commissioning standards for projects and oversee support staff•This position will include responsibility for maintaining budget and profitability targets•Some travel is required to perform detailed studies and feasibility analyses•Investigation of existing systems/operations and identify equipment and processes for design modification•Ability to work independently as well as support and assist project management team
Skills / Qualifications •BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering•1 to 5 years of design experience•FE or PE Registration desirable•One year minimum energy consulting and analysis experience preferred•One year + of facility HVAC/plumbing/energy design experience•Demonstrated knowledge of engineering and scientific principles•Excellent computer applications and spreadsheet skills•Excellent written and verbal communication skills•Prior experience designing and specifying plumbing, HVAC, and controls systems•Knowledge of the design and operation of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional and federal facilities as they relate to energy conservation for such facilities•Experience auditing and designing temperature controls systems•REVIT or AUTOCAD experience developing drawings for plumbing and HVAC systems•Ability to interface with client effectively and efficiently•Field coordination experience•Renewable Energy design experience preferred•Certified Energy Manager preferred•Certified Commissioner desirable•Ability to recognize, identify, assess, and produce detailed calculations for energy conservation measures (ECMs)•Calculations to include operational and maintenance savings as well as the cost for implementation of the proposed ECM’s•Extremely adept with Microsoft Excel•Knowledgeable with Codes and industry standards (ex. NFPA, IMC, IPC, ASHRAE, etc.) •Able to write design analyses, specifications, estimate project costs, and estimate construction schedule durations•Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US and outside the US.
