Two postdoctoral positions are available in technology development of brain MRI and CLARITY 3D histology within the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer McNab, Assistant Professor of Radiology, Stanford University. This is an opportunity to work on NIH funded studies aimed at determining the influence of histological features on diffusion and functional MRI measurements of human brain through direct, quantitative comparisons against CLARITY 3D histology. These projects involve the development of new techniques for MRI, tissue clearing and microscopy, as well as, analysis tools and co-registration algorithms. Research will be conducted in close collaboration with Dr. Karl Deisseroth’s lab.
Dr. McNab’s laboratory is based at the Richard M. Lucas Center for Imaging, which was established in 1992 as a centralized resource dedicated to biomedical imaging research on the Stanford University campus. The close proximity of the Lucas Center to the Schools of Medicine and Engineering fosters a truly transdisciplinary approach to research.
Major MR imaging devices available for research studies within the Radiology Department include one 7T GE Discovery MR950 (with 8ch pTx), two 3T GE Discovery MR750, and one 3T GE PET/MRI (all 100% available for research), as well as multiple animal MR scanners. Hardware design and fabrication facilities exist and are being actively grown as part of a new high field and hardware research effort.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in engineering, physics, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or related discipline. Applicants may have a primary background in either MRI or tissue clearing/microscopy but a proven capacity and desire to work across disciplines. Strong programming skills are highly valued.
