Under the direction of the Transportation Engineering Manager, perform experienced-level professional duties in the design and preparation of project plans for transportation related projects, review private development and capital projects for consistency with transportation engineering principles and investigate and identify solutions to citizen complaints. Work is characterized by experienced, advanced level review of professional-level engineering duties involved in the preparation and review of designs, cost estimates and construction plans for public works improvement projects; review of private development projects and working to identify solutions to concerns raised by citizens. The incumbent is also required to coordinate communications with the public, contractors, developers, City personnel and other agencies. Work is performed under limited supervision. The manager sets the overall objectives and resources available. The incumbent and manager work together to identify work to be completed and applicable schedules. Incumbent is responsible for the work, plans and carries out the assignment, resolves most conflicts that arise, and interprets policies on own initiative in terms of established objectives. Incumbent keeps manager informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far reaching implications. Work is reviewed in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work, or effectiveness of results.
