Arlington County is looking for a Wet Utilities Design Engineer Team Supervisor to lead a team of three-to-four Design Engineers ranging from entry-level to experienced, senior-level Professional Engineer in complex, urban public works wet-utility capital improvement projects with associated work that includes transportation infrastructure restoration, dry-utility relocations, and drainage improvements. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Engineer to lead a team from concept plan development through final engineering design and construction support on projects ranging in cost from $100,000 to over $10 million.
This Design Engineer Team Supervisor will oversee team responsibilities in the development of concept plans, final design construction drawings, specifications, estimates, bid documents, and support services during construction. The portfolio of projects typically includes 15-to-30 projects of various size and stage of completion. Projects include water main and/or sanitary sewer pipe replacements or upgrades to increase capacity or replace aging infrastructure. Work is performed in a built-out urban environment with limited access resulting from congested right-of-way or various infrastructure.
This position is in the Engineering Bureau which consists of approximately 75 employees who provide full-scale surveying, design, and construction management services for public works capital projects. In addition to the full range of skills which are provided in-house, the Bureau utilizes contractors and consultants to enhance the capacity of projects. This employee reports directly to the Assistant Engineering Bureau Chief.
The successful candidate will possess outstanding project management skills, technical expertise in civil engineering with experience in a construction plan production environment, and strong leadership qualities with a proven track record of successfully working with various stakeholders.
Minimum: The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, plus significant experience in the design of public works capital improvement projects, and a PE License in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or a state with reciprocity.
