Overview / Responsibilities Amec Foster Wheeler’s Dallas team is growing and we have an opportunity for a Transportation Engineer to assist in providing engineering services on a variety of transportation related projects. Performs engineering and material testing and laboratory work involving construction, construction inspection, maintenance, environmental and/or transportation operations. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has authority for final approval of all projects. Work requires contact with local governmental representatives, engineering contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Key Responsibilities •Applies engineering principles, methods and techniques to a wide variety of transportation-related activities•Collects engineering data at project sites•Performs construction inspection and material sampling/testing•Performs engineering-related duties in the field of transportation engineering•Performs research and problem solving of engineering-related problems•Develops work plans, scopes of work, project schedules, and cost estimates associated with transportation engineering•Develops engineering calculations, drawings and specifications to present design information onto design packages•Reviews plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings•Performs analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of engineering data.•Interacts with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project site•Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects; Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work; Reports any safety issues or concerns to management
Skills / Qualifications •BS in Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline•Minimum 2 years of engineering experience on transportation projects•PE, or EIT with ability to obtain PE in the state of Texas•Valid Driver’s License required•Working knowledge of design engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory, highway construction and maintenance, and research and analysis methodologies•Experience applying engineering principles, practices and methods in job responsibilities•Understanding of engineering fundamentals and using engineering workstations and applications of engineering technology•Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry•Collecting, sorting and compiling data•Leading, assigning, reviewing and monitoring the work of others•Analyzing and organizing technical data•Maintaining a safe working relationship•Strong written and verbal communication skills•Experience with CAD and/or GIS with basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel Physical Demands•Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work•Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy•Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehiclesDiversity Statement We are an equal opportunity employer that recognises the value of a diverse workforce.
