Other work may include field support for hydrogeology, geology, and soil physics related projects. The applicant will be directly involved in all aspects of scientific research, to include: design of experiments; collecting, managing and analyzing data; hydrologic, hydraulic, and sediment transport modeling, including two-dimensional hydraulic modeling; and report writing. The position will require some travel for field projects throughout the southwestern United States. U.S.A. citizenship is required and the ability to obtain a security clearance is mandatory.
The Division of Hydrologic Sciences conducts a wide variety of hydrologic research that often involves complex, high-quality data collection. These can range from the routine to cutting-edge, involving work in every type of hydrologic environment. The focus of this position is on arid-environment surface hydrologic and hydraulic studies, primarily within the state of Nevada or in the southwestern U.S. Along with superior technical skills, DRI is seeking an individual bringing innovation and a sense of scientific inquiry. The successful candidate will collaborate with their environmental science colleagues to solve problems and improve our understanding of hydrologic environments and processes within the State of Nevada. Staff scientists may present results in project reports, conference proceedings, and/or peer-reviewed journal publications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS •U.S. Citizenship •Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in hydrology, civil engineering, or related field if the latter had an emphasis on or direct application to hydrology related topics. •The equivalent of two years full-time professional field experience focusing in activities related to this position •Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling •Experience with data compilation, quality assessment, and analysis; and report writing •Demonstrated ability to maintain quality, safety, and control standards •Strong oral and written communication skills •Demonstration of vested interest in their work •Team player with diverse interests and excellent interpersonal skills •Installation and maintenance of field instrumentation •Nevada driver’s license or ability to obtain one by hire
