The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (CEEM) at the University of Arizona invites applications for the Department Head position. With the rapidly changing technologies and increasing interest in multi-disciplinary perspectives in shaping future cities, civil engineers are facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities in the decades to come. The future CEEM Department Head must be an innovative and visionary academic leader who can take the helm and spearhead the continuing transformation of the CEEM department for the challenges of the 21st century. The Department Head is responsible for managing a dynamic department which includes a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, as well as a number of modern teaching and research laboratories and other facilities. Candidates are expected to have extensive research and teaching experience at a level sufficient to qualify for appointment as a tenured Full Professor. A candidate with accomplishments in administrative leadership and team-building is preferred.
The CEEM department is recognized for both its teaching and research, offering BS (ABET accredited), MS, ME, and PhD degrees in several civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering and engineering mechanics.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of achievement inscholarship, research, and/or professional practice commensurate with anappointment at the rank of professor with tenure. The candidate should alsodemonstrate effective managerial leadership, clear communication, and acommitment to diversity, shared governance, and community engagement.• PhD in Civil Engineering or related field;• Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching, including an on-goingresearch program;• Demonstrated record of leadership experience;• Previous experience advising PhD students;• Research record appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor in CEEM.
• Previous administrative experience as head or associate head, center director, orequivalent leadership position;• Membership on boards of academic journals and/or professional associations;• Experience with online programs;• Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding;• Skills necessary to perform as an effective communicator to internal and externalconstituencies;• Commitment to participatory decision making processes.• The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of engagement with diversityissues, diverse students, women in engineering, and other diversity-related faculty,staff, and student communities.
