The Engineer/Senior Engineer – Utilities Engineering is a professional engineering position in the Department of Public Works and Utilities responsible for two main roles:
1. The primary role (70-80% time) is the primary person responsible for engineering review of development applications and designs for public works and utilities infrastructure. This involves review of submissions regarding development and redevelopment projects for conformance with City standards and specifications and review to support the best interests of the City and long-term utility operations and maintenance. 2. The secondary role (20-30% time) is the development, coordination, project management, plan review, and construction inspection of utility capital improvement projects. These projects involve municipal water distribution systems, water treatment and storage facilities, pump stations, wastewater collection systems, wastewater treatment and lift station facilities, reclaimed water distribution systems, and reclaimed water treatment. The incumbent is a liaison to consulting engineers and contractors on a number of Department planning and Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs). This person will assist in selecting and managing engineering consulting firms and coordinate activities of consultants on water, wastewater, and reclaimed water projects. Major responsibilities include capital project management from master planning level design through project construction and implementation within defined schedules and budgets.
Work is under the direction of the Utilities Engineering Manager, but with appreciable latitude for independent judgment and action for achievement of desired objectives. This position will require attendance at occasional evening meetings.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. Starting wages are negotiable and dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee's fluency in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Laotian.
