SUMMARY OF DUTIESThis position is responsible for the data gathering, design drafting and review of documents, supporting the Facilities Design Group in the development of complete sets of engineered drawings and specifications supporting Amtrak’s Capital Projects program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:•On site field assessments, field surveys and data gathering•AutoCAD drafting•Complete assembly of plans and specifications supporting the departments Professional Engineering Staff, Must be experienced in participating on engineering teams and multiple projects.•Design responsibilities to include reviews of various levels of design documents, shop drawings, material catalog cuts, review of SSWP’s and construction staging plans•Supporting various construction projects as the design representative with assistance with technical issues that arise during construction and collection/documentation of “as-built” information•Review design documents for various projects supporting the Capital Programs system wide design program•Provide assistance to the Facilities Group staff of Professional Engineers and Architect, in drafting, design development, planning work and solving technical issues•Collaborate with system and division managers on project progress•Interact with representative from various Railroads, Government organizations and private entities•Coordinate project charter development, project tracking and quarterly State of Good Repair (SOGR) meetings on a system wide basis
WORK EXPERIENCE:•Proficient in AutoCAD, STAAD, Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project,•Some experience in project management•Proficient or capable of learning Primavera, Timberline, Work Element Explorer•Some experience in drafting and design•Must be able to motivate others and drive for results
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:•Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and software programs, such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE. GIS/GWD or other distribution type software.•Knowledgeable in all types of distribution level equipment and their application required•Required to be knowledgeable in physical distribution design methods and their application (i.e. distribution design; equipment egress/ingress; hardware selection and BOM).•Some hands on experience as an electrical engineer in US electrical distribution and US electrical utilities related industry.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:•FE certification•Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, with power related courses, required
